A north east company, Transmission Dynamics (owned by JR Dynamics Ltd) has announced a £4.2m expansion of their facilities with a new Future Innovation Hub to be built in Cramlington. The expansion which has secured grant support from the European Regional Development Fund as well as support from Advance Northumberland is set to bring a further 50, highly skilled jobs to the region.

The firm specialises in innovative Industrial Internet of Things solutions and has a fast-growing pipeline of commercial contracts for their deployment globally. It is hoped that this new facility will afford Transmission Dynamics the physical capacity, specialist facilities and resources needed to scale up their manufacturing and deployment capabilities.

Meldrum Construction Services Ltd, part of the Meldrum Group, have been appointed main contractor to construct this highly specialised facility.

Dave Meldrum, CEO of Meldrum Group said “The Future Innovation Hub is a brilliant project to be involved in and the type of project where Meldrum are uniquely placed to deliver that completely integrated service with the majority of trades are delivered in house.” The £3.2m build will see the construction of the Future Innovation Hub, comprising of new office and manufacturing facilities.

He went on to say “The ambition of JR Dynamics to expand and bring 50 highly skilled jobs to the area is commendable. Working in partnership with clients who share similar core values is exactly what Meldrum Group are about and we’re thrilled to be involved in its delivery.”

The expansion has been made possible with the award of £500,000 from the European Regional Development Fund for the development of these new premises.

The new facility will allow new job creation which is great news for the whole region.”

This development has also been supported by Advance Northumberland whose aim is to support economic development in the county, Chairman of Advance Northumberland, Cllr Jeff Watson stated: “Northumberland County Council, through its development company Advance Northumberland, recognised both the cutting-edge technological talent and the growth potential of Transmission Dynamics and were delighted to assist the company’s ambition to expand its operations in Northumberland.”

The Future Innovation Hub is being designed by Ryder Architecture Ltd who are Buildings Architectural Practice of the year 2021 and the Architects behind notable projects, such as the redevelopment of Newcastle Central Station and The Biosphere, The Spark, and Lumen at Newcastle Helix and Bank House.

Project and Cost Management will be undertaken by the professional services consultancy, Turner & Townsend.

The development broke ground this week with representatives from each of the partners of the consortium being joined by Mayor of the North of Tyne Combined Authority, Jamie Driscoll. Mayor Driscoll stated ‘It’s great to see building activity that we helped make happen. Small businesses are the life blood of our local economy. “With the growing demand for our innovative services and steady growth over the past two years, we have now reached the full capacity of our present offices at Arcot Court.  a result, any further growth would have not been possible without embarking on this important investment. The Future Innovation Hub is set for completion in October 2022.
