NIFRS FLOOD WATER RESCUE TRAINING FACILITY
Meldrum Structural and Civil Engineering were appointed to design and build a flood water training rescue facility for Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, using patented Rapid Bloc technology.
A first-of-its-kind training facility in Northern Ireland, purpose-built to simulate real flood rescue scenarios. Built from the ground up by Meldrum Civil Engineering, this project showcases our capability in delivering complex civil infrastructure with innovative cutting-edge technology.
A 100-metre long, 10-metre wide man-made water channel—formed from hybrid precast concrete units, each embedded with an integrated Unistrut system. Feeding this dynamic course is a 6300 cubic metre reservoir, complete with 3 powerful water pumps – replicating real world scenarios. Using our Rapid Water Courses technology, the course can be reconfigured in minutes—creating realistic and variable rescue environments for any flood water training team.
We installed a floodgate system engages under pressure to push into its seals—engineered to ensure minimal water loss, maximum safety and seamless access for training props.
Our advanced water treatment facility features ceramic membrane filters and neutralisation systems—ensuring water is discharged safely into the environment, meeting NIEA standards. From in-house steel bridge fabrication to artificial turf, automated floodlights, and boundary fencing—every detail was delivered in-house, end-to-end.
A European first: purpose-built for performance and adaptability, this ground-breaking facility sets the new standard in flood water rescue training.
