PAEDIATRIC WAITING ROOM
Meldrum Facilities were appointed the refurbishment of two rooms in Darlington Hospital, reconfiguring them into paediatric waiting rooms. This included the removal of a reinforced concrete wall in a live hospital environment, and observing infection control procedures at all times.
Works separated into two phases, phase one incorporating a temporary fire door with allowance for complete fire compartmentation to allow early occupation. Phase two including a swap out of the permanent fire door as installed and certified to BMTRADA.
Before works could begin site installed a hoarding around the opening of the rooms so that works and the adjoining rooms in the building were kept separate. Strip-out works then began, with removal of all mechanical items (sinks & radiators) and the removal of electrical’ s (sockets & switches). New lintels were installed to the wall, prior to forming a new opening.
The drilling contractor then came in and formed a new opening in the wall, accommodated by a power supply we previously installed. Followed by plasterwork, widening the entrance door, removing the existing window and blocking up the single door in line with the requested acoustic level – set by the client. Allowing for the installation of new electrical back boxes, trunking, fire boarding and fire stopping to the bulkhead.
Next was the electrical installation, including new lighting as LED tile replacement lights along with emergency lighting screed/self-level was laid to the full floor in preparation for new floor covering.
Moving onto the installation of 2 radiator covers. Decorations included whiterock at 1.2m on all walls and the installation of mural wallpaper.
Finalising the job with a domestic clean on completion.
